Antonio Conte hopes Chelsea can replicate last season’s 13-game winning streak in the Premier League, but acknowledges even that may be not enough to overhaul Manchester City.
Asked whether he felt his team was capable of stringing together another long run of wins, Conte replied: ‘I hope so because last season we won 13 games in a row and in this league it’s not simple to have this type of run. In every game it’s very difficult, every game you have to play with great focus and concentration otherwise you risk dropping points. Four wins in a row is important for our confidence. We started the season with many problems but we are trying slowly to find the right solution. I’m very happy, especially for the commitment of my players. In this case it doesn’t depend on us because Manchester City are playing very well and they’re having fantastic results. Now it’s very difficult to think that someone can stop them. They are having a fantastic run.’
Today will be Antonio Conte’s 50th Premier League match in charge of #Chelsea.

“We played with great energy, with great passion and with great enthusiasm. It’s great for me, the players, the club, but above all it’s great for our fans, to breathe this energy, to breathe this passion, to breathe this enthusiasm. I saw a lot of positive things, not only in the tactical aspect but above all my players’ desire, their will to fight and help each other.
“When we play in this way it’s great. This was a massive game, and to win against Manchester United gives you more confidence, and gives you the right enthusiasm to understand that if we want, we can.”

Antonio Conte has hit back at Jose Mourinho by saying that Chelsea’s title win last season was a ‘miracle’ given that he had more or less the same players who had finished 10th the season before, under Mourinho. Conte has insisted that the rebuilding job after Mourinho’s departure – he was sacked in December 2015, half way through the season in which the club finished 10th – is still underway.
Conte said: ‘Last season was a miracle. It was a miracle, because we had the same players that the season before finished 10th. OK our transfer market was with Michy Batshuayi, David Luiz, N’Golo Kante and Marcos Alonso.
‘But if I don’t remember badly, you [the media] were the first to say Chelsea is prepared [in 2016-17] to become worse than the previous season. I remember the headlines. I have to say when I make mistakes, but also you have to do the same. Don’t forget, and I repeat, that in the last four, five years we lost a lot of important players for Chelsea: [Didier] Drogba, [Petr] Cech, [Frank] Lampard, [John] Terry, [Branislav] Ivanovic, [John Obi] Mikel. [Nemanja] Matic was last season. But I’m talking about players that wrote history in this club, because they played for many years and they played Champions League games, semi-finals, finals. Now we are restarting to build something important, to try to put the club again to be able to face this type of situation.’

#Conte says we need to find the hunger of last season. Or is it a case of selling players and not buying good enough replacements?

Conte was visibly irritated when he addressed reports of his players being unhappy with his training regime, and rumours Carlo Ancelotti was being lined up to replace him as manager:
“There is a lot of bullshit. If I see the past it happened the same with a lot of managers. A lot of bullshit. They try to create problems between me, the club and the players. If someone is happy to continue to write this I answer very well in the past. I am answering very well about these different issues.”
“This is a lack of respect. I can accept to write the club is ready to sack me and the story with the players. I can accept this but to put another person in this way I think this is incorrect and it is not good that this person has to send me a message to tell me: ‘I am sorry but this is not true, I am sorry, if you want to do an interview, I am ready.’ Why put another person in this bullshit? If you want to hit me, hit me. This is incorrect and I hate this type of situation.”
“I am in touch with Carlo. He is my friend but he doesn’t mean nothing. I don’t care what the newspaper write about my future or the other person because this is our job and Carlo is my friend. I have great respect for him and he was my coach at Juventus.”
